Especially for Young Entrepreneurs (EFYE)

Origin Story

Driving to campus for the opening session of the University Conference, I was listening to RadioLab’s description of medical facility conditions during Hurricane Katrina. I thought about how I need to spend time too thinking about the welfare of my students and role at the university, and I was reminded of the YEAH program at UC Berkeley.

Summary

YEAH (Young Entrepreneurs at Haas) enables middle-schoolers from around the country (and world) to have an immersive, experiential experience in entrepreneurship at Haas. We have an excellent summer camp program underway at BYU, and there would likely be demand for a similar program as YEAH. Imagine being able to provide an introduction to business within the context of the gospel–perhaps correlate it with founder’s week and enable participants to view pitches. Imagine Miller Series participants advising student groups themselves.

More broadly, the idea is connecting our students and resources to the younger members of the Church.

Next Directions

  • I think I may have mentioned this idea to Nile before. Bounce it off of him in one of our lunch meetings sometime.
  • Talk to Cory Reschke about the program I saw him volunteer in. Could be similar.
